Sport & Leisure - Lloyd & Aveling Park

Previous Arrow Next Arrow

This project restored of the park’s historic features, including the grounds of the William Morris Gallery, whilst creating a wide range of recreation, play and sporting opportunities.

We built a new hub building, which caters for a million visitors a year, and provides exhibition space, changing rooms, WC’s, a café and offices. It’s a low energy building which supports activities within the park, including a green roof which offers an ecological habitat.

The new Bowls Pavilion includes changing facilities, café/bar, meeting rooms and WC’s along with a new central biomass boiler house serving the entire suite of park buildings.

Whilst the project received Heritage Lottery Funding, tenders were substantially over budget so we worked with the project team, proposing significant changes to save over £1 million.

Landscaping works were undertaken across the entire park including play areas, a skate park, a synthetic bowling green and tennis courts. Further works included fencing, paving, planting, tree works, park furniture, new lamp columns and drainage. Works to the Grade II Listed historic moat and island included a new bridge and repairs to existing bridges.

The Hub was winner of a Civic Trust Award Commendation in 2015.
