Housing - Pump House, Walthamstow

Previous Arrow Next Arrow

Re-development of part of Pump House Transport Museum’s site into 21 flats and family homes. We designed and built 11 flats in two three-storey blocks and 10 houses in two terraces. 12 units were affordable rent, of which two were wheelchair accessible, and 9 units were shared ownership.

The transformation of this challenging former industrial site called for decontamination, careful piling due to poor quality ground and large underground obstructions along with diversion of a public sewer.

Flats were built with a reinforced concrete frame and brick cladding whilst the houses were traditional brick/block with zinc cladding to upper levels and roofs, complementing the existing museum. These sustainable homes have photovoltaic panels, achieving Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 and every home has access to either a private balcony or garden.

Extensive external works included the provision of new roads, pavements, street lighting, car parking, and recreational spaces.
