Education - Coleridge Primary School

Previous Arrow Next Arrow

Design, conversion and extension to form an entirely new Junior School on the site of the former Hornsey School of Art. The existing primary school stands on the west side of Crouch End Hill and will become the new Infant School once this project is completed.

The project consists of converting the existing five storey 1920’s steel framed building into school halls, dining hall and catering kitchen, classrooms and offices. New two storey classroom wings were constructed on each side of the existing building to provide spacious, well lit teaching accommodation. These achieve balanced daylight through the use of curtain walling and clerestorey windows, and natural cross ventilation.

A sophisticated central Building Management System (BMS) controls the completely new mechanical and electrical installations to the entire site, including the new Passenger Lift to the main building, and comfort cooling to halls, ICT rooms and offices.

The external areas were all re-landscaped including forming terraces to the naturally sloping site, provision of car parking and a multi-use games area (MUGA)
