Education - St Benedict's School

This two-stage negotiated project included a very interactive second stage where we worked closely with the Client Team to value engineer and risk-manage the proposed design to within acceptable levels.

The project involved demolishing the existing single storey main entrance, circulation area, WC’s and offices, and the new construction of a three storey “Heart Space” building which provides an impressive main entrance & reception, double height hall, 9 classrooms, Chapel & offices. It also acts as a link between three existing school buildings, all at differing levels.

The substructure is piled with a fair-faced insitu reinforced concrete ground and first floor. Above first floor, the building is constructed of cross-laminated timber panels and is clad in facing brickwork and Fibre-C rainscreen.

The roofs are flat, with single ply membrane and sedum covering using green roof technology as rainwater attenuation.

Windows and external doors are Velfac composite units.

The building is extensively serviced, with comfort cooling and heating served by new centralised plant.

External works comprise new entrance road, pavings and street furniture to courtyards.
