Education - Roding Primary School

Previous Arrow Next Arrow

This project increased the capacity from a two-form entry school to a three-form entry school and provided much needed additional hall and dining space.

A new two storey detached block was constructed using a cross laminated timber (CLT) structure which linked to the existing school via a glazed canopy.

The building incorporates four classrooms and a hall at ground floor with another four classrooms at first floor. It  includes WCs, circulation/breakout spaces and group rooms.

The upper floor of the building is served by a single staircase constructed in CLT and a DDA compliant platform lift.

External cladding comprised Eternit rainscreen and vertical cedar weatherboarding. Windows and external doors are Comar aluminium and the roof is a cut-to-falls insulation with single ply membrane over.

The building is heated using roof mounted air source heat pumps and wet underfloor heating pipework, each room being individually temperature controlled. The building was designed to minimise the need for mechanical ventilation by use of natural cross-ventilation.
